Map Pilot Pro + DJI Mini 2 Questions: Switching to Manual Mode, Camera Direction, Restarting After Switching Batteries, Automatic Restart Points

1. I'm finding it difficult to engage manual flight mode when I'm mapping with my mini 2. The only reliable way I've found is to switch to sport mode from normal mode on my controller, which pauses the drone and lets me control it. Is there a better way? One time I accidentally bumped a control stick and it went into manual flight mode. What may have changed?

2. If I'm setting up a linear flight in map pilot pro, is there a way to set the camera direction? I want to map a perimeter path around my AOI while facing inwards towards it to capture oblique photos, is there a way to do this?

3. Whenever my flight ends for me to switch out the battery, the only way for me to reconnect the mini 2 (even after selecting "reconnect") is to exit out of the app completely, open the DJI fly app, then open Map Pilot Pro again and try to connect again. Is there a better way to do this or a way to bypass this?

4. If there ends up being two automatic restart points, my drone will automatically go towards the earlier one instead of the later one, capturing doubles of all of the space between the two points. How can I bypass this, or how should I go about removing the earlier point?

1. That is the correct way to do it. If you do any input on the sticks while it is in a Virtual Stick flight it would also leave the programmed flight but then it will still need to change flight modes via the switch to be flown properly.

2. There is not. The newly upcoming versions 3 for Android (available via APK now) and 6 for iOS will have vertical mapping modes which will allow for what you are describing.

3. You need to wait for it to reconnect on its own before you hit reconnect. This is better on the new versions too.

4. If you don't let the aircraft come home on its own the waypoints will get out of sync. If the blue verification line shows it returning to the wrong abandonment point you can tap any corner waypoint to restart there so you don't have to refly too much.

Thank you Zane. I just downloaded the beta, it's pretty exciting. Would using a vertical flight to fly the perimeter of my AOI facing inwards look like setting the upper and lower boundaries as close as possible (1m) and orientation to horizontal/right or left? What does across track overlap do for the vertical mission vs along track?

Yes, you can choose which way it is looking when you are flying around or inside a perimeter. There is a lower limit to how close to the line you can fly though since it designed for flying around buildings.

The overlaps are pretty much the same. Along track overlap is how often it takes an image along the axis of flight and the across track overlap controls the distance between the passes.

Thanks Zane. Vertical Mission is almost perfect, but when I tried it, I couldn't manipulate the gimbal angle. If I did, it would snap back up to horizontal. Is there a way to adjust or override the gimbal angle during vertical flights?

The gimbal setting for the horizontal is handled by the settings in Map Pilot Pro when you are setting up the flight. I don't think certain aircraft will allow you to manually adjust things as you fly. Email us a Maps Made Easy link the specific log file for the affected flight and we can take a look.
