Mapping 28 miles of ditch.

Im currently about to start a project where i will be creating updated imagery of 28 miles of ditch.
I wanted to know if anyone had any warnings for a project of this size.
They need the resolution as seen in this example I have created
https://www.mapsmadeeasy.com/maps/public/1cf4b996eda24ba2a0c3efd3cd1201a7
I also wondered if there was a way to make the iOS app display previous flights so make sure i have ample overlap between each section.

Any tips or ideas that may help are welcome, my test have gone very smooth and I just wanted to source the community before work started.

Im using a inspire 1 with iOS application.

Thanks everyone!

Super long maps like the one you are describing won't generally work if you post it all as one job. You will need to break it up into sections to keep from reaching the size limits of the intermediate file formats that are using in our processing.

GeoTiffs really don't like being larger than 65000 pixels in any dimension. Please keep this in mind when planning out your segments. If you have 1 inch GSD 65000 inches is roughly 1 mile. This limit applies to the North/South direction and East/West independently. You can do a linear stretch that goes 1.4 miles at 45 degrees without breaking the limit in either direction.

There is no current way to view previous maps. We have been hearing this feedback a lot and hope to add support soon.

SO I have a couple other question,
1. How long will these maps be available at the link?
2. Is there a good way to deliver this offline but view it embedded on a map?
3. If i can only do it in about 1 mile sections that means i would be forced to deliver 28 1 mile sections or 28 links to my client...what is the best way to package and deliver this? Im willing to pay whatever needed to make this easy and simple for my client.

  1. The map links do not expire as long as it is actively being used. Jobs using promotional points that are not visited for 6 months will be deleted.

  2. The GeoTiff or JPG files can easily be handled offline.

  3. You can combine multiple individually processed jobs together into one map by creating a Location Map. Combining all of the files together is probably not possible since it would be WAY to big for any known file format to hold. 1 mile at 1 inch GSD will take up 65000 pixels. 28 of these together would give a file that is 1.8 gigapixels wide... No single file format can hold that. Your best bet is to create a Location Map but that is not available offline.
