scoop on the Sony Multispectral Camera (MSZ-2100G)

I was pretty excited to see mention of a non-DJI camera in the latest update to MapPilot (https://support.dronesmadeeasy.com/hc/en-us/articles/206081996-Update-History).

Does the update mean the Sony Multispectral Camera (MSZ-2100G) is supported in some way? There are very few specification details for this camera that I can find, so its support (or future support) seems at first to be counter to the MME philosophy of only using true narrow band cameras to get real data (https://support.dronesmadeeasy.com/hc/en-us/articles/206003636-NDVI-Processing). So my question is... what's the scoop?

I've been super happy (as I hope I've made clear!) with Map Pilot, and will eventually be interested in trying to increase the quality of the imagery I can collect while using your excellent interface and terrain awareness. That might include a Sony RGB camera or a supported multispectral camera. I currently fly with the Zenmuse X3 and a Micasense RedEdge3 simultaneously mounted on a Matrice 100, but it'd be great to be able to expand what cameras might be usable either natively or with some kind of custom solution from you all.

Thanks for asking!

The Sony Multispectral Camera MSZ-2100G is a brand new camera that was just released last week at the Commodity Classic show on February 27, 2019.

Watch the video here to see the camera and Map Pilot in action:

We support this camera because it is a real solution. Our complaint about all of the other cameras before is that most are hack jobs. While this is not a narrow band filter solution, it has been specially designed by the sensor manufacturer that has all sorts of capabilities to provide in depth calibrations that you can't do outside of the box. This is the first time a sensor manufacturer has made an NDVI camera. This is a big deal.

Drones Made Easy is the exclusive integrator for this camera and we have added support for it into our Map Pilot application. Outputs of complex field definitions from Syngenta's Farmshots software can be imported and managed locally within Map Pilot.

We are offering a kit that consists of a Phantom 4 Advanced, the Sony camera and a bunch of accessories.

The first very large batch of these is going to Syngenta but we will be selling the kits directly to the public soon. There will also be an upgrade path for current owners of the P4A or P4P aircraft to be equipped with the camera and have access to the Map Pilot features.

More to come...

We not currently have a schedule for its sale but we are hoping to be able to ship them by the end of the month.

We are not selling the camera as a standalone product though. Proper use of it requires our special mount and electrical integration which is beyond the installation capabilities of normal users.

If you would like to purchase a kit please email sales@dronesmadeeasy.com to get a quote.
