camera not triggering during flight

Hi there,

I am the equipment manager for a UK company called Hummingbird Tech.

Map Pilot for DJI buisness, until today, has been the preferred mapping software we use for our worldwide fleet of rotary platforms. However, this week we have had major operational issues caused by the app which has resulted in a loss of income.

Drone 1: DJI M200, Map pilot v 4.1.8, Monday 23rd March

Flying a 3 battery mission, after changing the second battery the drone wanted to re-start where the first battery was changed. The pilot stopped the mission and built a new mission to cover the area not yet flown resulting in increased time and costs.

Drone 2: different M200, Map pilot v 4.1.8, Friday 27th March

The drone was flying the mission when the pilot noticed large gaps between the black dots although the image counter was increasing. At the end of the flight very few images had been saved. These areas had to be re-flown resulting in increased time and costs.

Drone 3: Inspire 2, map pilot v4.1.6, Friday 27th March

The pilot noticed large gaps between the black dots during flight. Very few images saved. Again resulting in increased time and costs.

As of now, we have instructed all our rotary pilots worldwide to not use Map pilot as it is unstable but to use a different app for all data collection.

Do you know what is causing the gaps in triggering ?

What I need to know is how these bugs can be sorted out in the shortest possible time.

Please come back to me as soon as possible.

Stay safe in these difficult times.

We are sorry to hear you experienced issues. None of these issues have anything to do with the latest version release. These are common problems which have documented solutions.

Drone 1: DJI M200, Map pilot v 4.1.8, Monday 23rd March

The problem here is that the pilot likely switched the aircraft out of programmed flight mode and didn't switch it back in before landing which makes the waypoint sync get messed up. With all flights you should verify that the blue line displayed to the pilot before Map Pilot take off matches up with what they would expect to be flying. If it does it can be overridden by using the Manual Restart Point feature:

Drone 2: different M200, Map pilot v 4.1.8, Friday 27th March

and

Drone 3: Inspire 2, map pilot v4.1.6, Friday 27th March

It sounds like there was a loss or RC signal while using Active Connect mode. Active Connect mode requires a very strong signal. In cases like this Connectionless Mode should be used:

https://support.dronesmadeeasy.com/hc/en-us/articles/217006946-Connectionless-Mapping

With all modes the SD card should be freshly formatted, have plenty of storage and be benchmarked against its published numbers to ensure that the camera will be able to keep up with the programmed flight parameters.
