Autel Evo II

Hi Zane,

I know you're working on support of the Evo II and I've read Tudor's announcement HERE

I've purchased their new Evo II Enterprise w/RTK and will be keen to be able to use Map Pilot. Unfortunately, the Enterprise comes with their Smart Controller and I'll need to get the regular controller in order to use ios. And, they are not available yet.

In the meantime, I've been in contact with their US based support guys and am trying to get them to reach out to whoever at Autel can provide some feedback and support on their SDK. They (the US guys) are also in favor of getting adoption of the SDK, so hopefully we all can benefit if Autel wakes up a bit.

Anyway, I will be interested in the Autel beta if it's still at that point when I can get a controller. Autel still has some bugs in their file set for precision gnss workflows, but supposedly they are working on them. And they are not so proprietary minded as is the case with DJI's RTK products. Fingers crossed.

We have had a really hard time getting answers from the regarding the SDK. Lots of emails, no responses. We have submitted our first Autel supporting release for approval from Apple but they rejected it because we don't have MFi access to their devices. This is a process that is well documented with DJI but we figured maybe it wasn't needed since Autel was smaller and had less devices out there. Nope. Hopefully we can get Autel to get us access to their devices quickly.

They did just do a new SDK update so hopefully it addresses all of the issues we were having and everything will be perfect!

Using an Evo2 Ent RTK, a couple more questions.

Will it be possible to initialize the RTK connection in Explorer, close it, and start Map Pilot Pro and have the connection remain? Or will MPP be able to interface that connection?
Are Evo2s also limited to 99 waypoints?
Are the Evo2s camera settings controllable in MMP the same as DJI craft?

We don't have one to test with but there does seem to be a lot of interest in it. As mentioned above, we have had a REALLY hard time getting questions answered by Autel so we are just glad to have the basics operating at this point...

1. That would be our guess.

2. Yes, I am not sure about how many waypoints it allows but it will follow the same logic we have used for DJI. It is pretty hard to program a mapping mission that could fly more than 100 waypoints on a single battery. Flying low over super rugged terrain is the only thing that can chew through the waypoints that quickly.

3. No. The Autel SDK has functions for it but they don't seem to work very well... We are currently only support Auto exposure although the 'Inherit' setting should allow whatever settings you make outside Map Pilot Pro to be used.

2. Yes, it's with terrain aware that I have bumped up against the dji limit.

3. Apparently when using Explorer, mission planner, the camera is locked on auto. Stormy here now, but I will be checking these things when I get the opportunity.

BTW, the Ent. is just an Evo2 Pro (v.2) that has a few more bells an whistles depending on the payload. Otherwise, I think the programming is the same.

Clearly, Autel's software side is fairly primitive by comparison to where DJI is. But the lower cost for similar hardware and lack of nanny-fencing is a big plus when your airspace environment is complex and DJI's unlocking has proven to be problematic at times.
