Terrain Aware Map

I processed a new DEM using Maps Made Easy and used this DEM to generate a flight plan in Map Pilot. It requires over 300 waypoints for a 29 minute flight, so 3 separate RTH and mission uploads. Is it possible to reduce the resolution on the DEM to generate fewer waypoints? I previously flew the same area (Open pit) using the SRTM DEM which gave far fewer waypoints.

There are only two options: custom DEM or SRTM. The difference in resolution is substantial. It goes from 10 cm/px to 30 m/px.

You can reduce the number of waypoints by flying higher. The Terrain Awareness feature will keep the flight within plus or minus 5% of the designated AGL altitude. The higher you fly the more it allows it to float and gives you less waypoints.

We have had users download the custom DEM and process it a bit themselves to smooth things out and then reupload it to the system using this:

Starting with Android version 1.4.0 and iOS version 5.5.0, Map Pilot Pro's Terrain Awareness feature will have options for ASTER, Copernicus, SRTM and any other datasets we can add as built-in Terrain Awareness Data Sources. Copernicus is 30 meter data and is essentially global at 89 to -89 degree coverage (everything but the poles). US users now have access to 10m data from 3DEP/NED.

Having multiple independent terrain data source choice makes it so you have options if one data source has missing data in your operating location.

We recommend using Copernicus for most work.
