Map Sharing

I'm trying to share maps however my selections aren't "sticking". I'm following the instructions given on the "How do I share results with my clients?" page however everything just reverts to private and the generated link comes up as an error when pasted into an email. For what it's worth I use a Mac and Safari as a browser. I know sometimes Safari doesn't play well with others but the same thing happens on Firefox. I have clients waiting for results, any ideas?
