Vegetation Mapping

Hi

I own a Matrice 100 with a zenmuse x3 12 megapixel camera (inspire camera)

I would like to map vegetation communities for conservation purposes and need to be able to zoom in to see leaf and flower structures in order to identify plants.  I'm not sure as to what  altitude, speed, overlap, and camera settings I will need to capture the imagery I require.

Could you please give me some suggestions so I can try them out?

Will the 12 megapixel camera provide enough detail?

Do I need a higher resolution camera?

speed?

overlap?

Cheers,

Guy

In our Map Pilot app, the altitude selection slider has a label above it called "GSD" which tells you the ground spatial distance of each pixel. Basically, this is your resolution on the ground. If you are trying to identify flowers you will likely need sub centimeter GSD in order to get enough detail.

Map Pilot will calculate the maximum speed for your but you should probably pick a pretty high overlap value (like 80%) to get it to turn out well.

Please refer to the following link for instructions on how to override the altitude slider limits and let you fly as low as you will likely need:

Good luck!
