Map Pilot Pro - DJI Mini 2 - Hovering, no mission

Since October 16 Map Pilot Pro has not been able to fly my Mini 2.

When I start a mission, the drone will fly to elevation and then sit and hover, occasionally making some erratic motion towards the start point.

This was happening on my work site, I thought it was a site specific issue, but testing at home yielded the same issues.

I had originally thought this was an issue with the site I was working on due to geozone and airport acknowledgements and so I made sure to have the zones unlocked. I also would start the drone in DJI Fly, do the zone acknowledgement, close DJI Fly, and then open MPP and start the mission. Neither of these actions made a difference.

My work-around presently is to start the mission, allow it to fly to elevation, then manually retrace the mission path. The first times I've tried this the camera would still automatically take the photos to start, but not for the 2nd battery.

I also encountered similar issues to what has been mentioned recently. On October 16 my first mission did eventually start, but as it was flying it would stop at each photo location, resulting in a very jerky flight. When I stopped and landed and attempted to restart the mission, it would no longer follow the flight path, just hovering at elevation. On either October 16 or October 22 when I went to continue the 2nd flight of a mission, the drone took off diagonally.

The Aircraft Errors panel should have shown you the following errors on your most recent flight:

  •  compass error. calibrate compass (one time)
  •  strong wind. fly with caution. (98 times)

These are directly from the DJI Diagnostic column of your most recent flight that is posted to your Maps Made Easy account. The compass error is what is blocking the automated flight.

The "strong wind" error should be taken seriously and is a sign to land to prevent aircraft loss, especially with a lightweight aircraft like the Mini 2.

Some of your other previous flights have airspace errors and other things going on. Keep an eye on the Aircraft Errors panel when there is unexpected behavior. It will usually give you some clues as to what is going on.

There is a recurring theme though in your log files: Compass errors. Do the calibration and see if things improve. If they don't you might need to get it looked at.

Ok, I did the compass calibration and it did seem to help in that the drone did slowly make its way to the start point and did begin the mission, but at every photo point it would jerk the gimbal vertically and it flew very slowly.

I'm aware of the high wind warnings. Prior to October 16 those warning would not actively stop the drone from flying.

I installed the 2.4.14b version of Map Pilot Pro and it worked perfectly.

Something in the latest update is not working with my DJI Mini2.

Make sure you don't have STI (Stop To Image) enabled. Enable it and then disable it to make sure. This could be the issue with the stopping at the imaging locations.

We are looking into the issue with the gimbal.

Do you have flights using 2.4.14 after you used 3.0.12? If so make sure they are synced so we can compare them.

3.0.13 has been released with an Advanced Setting that allows you to disable "Check Gimbal Angle" which is what is making the gimbal tick like that. Map Pilot Pro monitors the gimbals position and compares it with the currently set value and changes it if it is different from the designated setting. Give that a try and see if it is better.

Thanks Zane.

version 3.0.12: Flight 1, Mission 151 Emo, Oct 26, 2025, 6:09pm

What is the preferred gimbal angle for processing? I read that it was nadir which I assumed was 0°, pointing straight down. But I also ready somewhere that the default was 5°?

Terrible weather here right now for the next few days, I'll let you know once I have a chance to check.

Thanks!

Map Pilot Pro uses 5 degrees as the default because it keeps the gimbal away from the end stops which can cause problems and the slight tip up helps with the Flat Map Failover performance. That little amount doesn't hurt the processing at all and actually gives better edge rendering performance as well.

Aaron-I had the same issues since October with my mini-2 and the updated app.  There was a little bit of wind when I tried to fly, but absolutely none another time.  On both occasions the drone would just hover.  I have not tried it again since, as I have multiple drones which I could still use.  I am also trying a different program for flights.

Zane replied to me and said it was the wind.

The new app update DOES NOT WORK, and you are not the only one experiencing this!   I am not sure why the new app was not tested before it was forcibly changed.

Rebecca: There have been a lot of updates since then. I was previously pointing out that there were lots of wind warnings in your logs. All bets are off when those are present. Aaron is experiencing a completely different set of issues that are not related.

Aaron: We have fixed the diagonal flight issue you initially posted about.
