If you are downloading the GeoTiff from Maps Made Easy it is an EPSG:4326 raster.
Beyond that, we can't really help much with Arcmap other than to say that we know a lot of our users use it successfully.
In Arcmap 10 catalogue, I first imported the tiff into a geodatabase then right clicked the file and opened Properties, scrolled down to Spatial Reference, which is undefined, and edited to select the GCS WGS 1984 projection. However, when I then add this file as a layer it does not appear -- only the legend appears in table of contents (with 3 color bands). What is wrong? I am adding the layer to data frame window that already has a Nad 83 tiff layer that shows up fine. I understand Arcmap is supposed to internally adjust the projection so that it shows up with the Nad 83. Is my tiff not really a geotiff? Is there an easy way to find that out?

I can't find EPSG:4326 projection in Arcmap, although I assume from what is posted, that it is the same as the WGS 1984 projection I have been using. Is that correct?
They are the same.
Still not working...
We use QGIS and the outputs work fine with that. We know users use Arcmap with our outputs but we can't provide support for another company's software.
