Framing Distortion

Hi Guys,

I captured a building project, and while the overlap report looks pretty good, the buildings that are in the framing stage contain a lot of distortion.

Is this just because it is such a complex area to capture, or is there something I can do to help minimize this from happening?

Also,  there are issues with the wheels of some of the equipment and distorted roof edges.

This was shot with a P3 at 200' above the ground with 70% overlap.

 Thanks for your guidance !

Framing certainly falls under the "that is pretty complex" category. Since you are taking the pictures from a handful of locations that include the structure the data will appear chunky like that. It will not be able to render the most complex locations which is where the swirls come from.

To render complex things like that a lot of overlap is required but also you would benefit from a higher quality camera like the X5. We have seen it do a much better job at rendering complex things since there is less lens distortion and the image is generally just much higher quality.

Thanks Ryan,  An X5 is certainly on the wish list. I know the process is trying it's best to make a 3D representation based upon the set of images. In theory, is it possible that if the processor was only tasked with stitching the images with the goal of a flat image it could do better?  In other words, maybe if there was an option to render a flat image only, the processor could do less, and details like this might lack depth, but be aesthetically better?
