Inspire Pro X5 focusing.

ok, I'll try it again.

I have a Matrice M600 PRO with X5 onboard. Since the autofocus is working too long, I have to switch it to manual and put focus to infinity.

But still it's completely out of focus.

Perhaps you have a solution for it? 

What is the procedure for setting manual focus, do I have to do it in DJI Go first and then in MME or the other way around? Must I close the DJI Go app before opening MME?

There many people having problem with focus on the X5, and already post on this site.

I fly now without problem.

Solution: Before your Mapping mission with Map Pilot

1-fly with DJI go at about 100m,

2- do the calibration,

3- put back the app to af focus,

4-do the focus at desired altitude for your Map Pilot mission,

5- land the drone (don't touch the focus again), 

6- Manualy put the lens on manual focus, not on the app but on the physical lens

7- do your Map pilot mission and it should be ok (dont quit the field before had take a look to the images)

8- redo it every time you change site

I had a loot off problem doing the focus with the X5 and this is the best solution a found so far!

Let me just write it again to be shure:

1. On ground, you select the physical switch on the X5 to AF

2. In DJI GO you set the app to AF also

3. You fly up and do the calibration process

4. Focus the X5 with tapping on the screen in the green AF window

5. Then you land and put the physical switch to MF

Is that correct?

If you do a multibattery mission, do you have to do it again after switching batteries?

And in Map Pilot the focus is set to MF, or does it not matter?

I just posted on this issue here: https://support.dronesmadeeasy.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/206699723-bad-focusing-with-I1Pro, so it is clearly still an issue. 

I can't use Matthieu's advice, because I am shooting with the 25mm lens, which does not have an AF/MF switch. I've also noticed with my 15mm lens, which DOES have the AF/MF switch, that on battery change, even when in MF, the focus resets to some arbitrary point. I'm not sure if it is consistent, but it definitely isn't at infinity.

I realize you guys are at the mercy of the DJI SDK, but I (we) could really use some help here. I can't trust the system to get consistently focused images with the hardware combination that I'm using.

Is there a way to pause the mission in MP once at altitude, focus, then continue the mission? Always open to suggestions/correction.

The only thing that works for us (Inspire1, X5 with 19 mm, switch to AF and AF selected in Dji go) is to

• get the mission going with Map Pilot 
• wait for it to take the first photo of the mission (which you now will be out of focus),
• pause the mission,
• tap-focus via the Dji go app on the second remote to get it focused
• resume the mission and have all images in focus.

We used to focus the camera right when it got to the desired altitude after take-off, and before it heads of to the starting-point, but we figured it somehow goes out of focus again just before it takes the first image.

It all is a bit frustrating for everyone i guess, but i'm sure there will be a solution at some point, or is that me being too optimistic?

I was really hoping not to have to get a second radio just to control focus. However, something in my brain reminded me of a two finger tap for focus. To summarize, once the drone reaches altitude, pause the mission, do a two finger tap on the preview to set the focus, then resume the mission. One poster said that doing the two finger tap twice in a row yielded even better focus.

So, does this mean that once focus is set at the beginning of the mission, even if the lens is set to AF, it doesn't try to check/change focus for the rest of that flight? My results seem to indicate this is the case, since my flights were either entirely out of focus or entirely in focus. If the system was focusing for each shot, then I would have variation in focus within each flight.

I'm hoping I am understanding the focus issue more now, and will report back my findings after today's flights.

Well, that just didn't work out in the field. Actually, I had trouble getting it to work here in my office. Getting just the right timing for a two finger tap turns out to be quite difficult, at least for me. If one finger hits the screen just slightly before the other, it thinks it is a one finger tap and shrinks down the size of the live preview window. I tried a couple dozen times, and was only able to get the timing right once.

Could I put in a request to change this from a two finger tap to a single finger press and hold? That would be much easier to do in the field and would also be less prone to being confused with a single finger tap.
