Mapping alongside a hill

First let me just say how impressed I am with mapsmadeeasy. I'm a new drone flyer and have just started with the Phantom 4. Very cool.

I would like to map a 100 acre feedlot that is mostly on the side of a hill. Currently from what I've read I can only set the altitude to one height so that it ends up being 150 ft above part of the high end of the lot i'm trying to map and maybe 400 feet above the ground for the lower area part that i'm trying to map.

Is it possible to break this up into 5 different missions for photographing? So that each mission is relatively just 150 ft off the ground? THen once all missions are complete, simply upload the pictures from all 5 missions into one MapsMadeEasy task? Will that work?

It would be best to get up to the highest area you want to survey and launch from there. In this case you can set the overlap pretty low (60%) and the areas below there will get plenty of overlap and turn out nicely.

As long as you don't need super high resolution on the lower areas flying high is your best bet.

We do offer a feature that would allow you to show each of 5 different jobs as a layer in the same map (we call it a Location Map) but that is less than ideal in this case.

We are working to add terrain awareness to our planning and it will be available soon.

Other question I have.
If I have a "T" shaped property I want to map. To my knowledge/experience, that is not possible with the drone mapping in one mission. So could I do two missions with that, and then upload both mission photos to the mapping software to get returned a "T" shaped map?

I am going to add on to this, with some other thoughts since I am being faced with a similar problem. I have to survey a hillside that is at a 35-45deg slope and GCP's will be set up before hand. My thought is that we shoot with the camera faced directly down on normal projects that are relatively flat to avoid shooting the terrain at any oblique angles. However if the slope or hillside in this case is so drastic, should the angle between the lens and terrain be close to perpendicular? In my case I believe the height of the slope is something like 600ft above T/O. Area is unaccesible by foot, hence the need for aerial survey. Any ideas or setup tips besides what has been presented?

Using an Inspire 1 Pro with 12mm lens..

Jeremey: For a simple T shaped properly we recommend just doing two missions as has been suggested in other threads.

Drone Tech: Perpendicular to the ground imaging will work but the map will still get resampled from above so it won't really help. Mapping something steep like this will introduce a lot of challenges like overlap planning and flight height restrictions. I would recommend free flying it slowly and getting more images that you think you need. It might take a couple of tries to figure out exactly what you need.

As of today version 2.1.0 is available with the Terrain Awareness feature. This feature keeps the aircraft a uniform distance from the ground to keep the GSD and overlap consistent. It enables high quality mapping of areas that are not flat.
