This has been fixed in the release that will come out in the next couple of hours. The default with no GPS is a fully zoomed out view of the country you are in. This will affect the native iOS map caching favorably. Automatically zooming to the last point is one of those things that sometimes you want it and sometimes you don't. We are more concerned with getting the caching at least partially working for people.
