If you are trying to compare datasets, there are a few other things you should probably be doing.
First, always include a ground reference image and upload it along with your images. This will make sure that all the elevations will be measured above sea level instead of in relation to the takeoff point. The Map Pilot app will record this for you. For maximum accuracy, you should probably always try to take off at the same spot if possible.
Second, try to use the same boundary points each time. Our base calculation is dynamic and using the same points every time will keep our estimation of the base from changing very much. A good alternative to this is using lots of points along the same path each time.
Third, for this specific situation, measuring volumes will be a bit harder to do correctly. Our volume tool is designed to measure individual stock piles that rest on some flat-ish surface. Since your situation is pretty different, you might want to put some stakes or markers around the boundary of the area you are trying to measure. These locations would need to be places that don't change over time. If you use those markers as your measurement boundary markers every time, the base will always be calculated the same and the volumes on top of it will be compared more accurately.
The good news is you don't have to measure anything manually...
