Drone fly up and down unnecessarily toward start point

Yestrday I wanted to fly in a area with a sin wave topography. Because of no access way to the area, I had to send drone one kilometer away from start point. Unfortunately I saw drone go up and down according to terrain before reaching start point and consumed most of battery charge and ruined mission plan.

I have an idea. If drone go high based on highest point in its path till start point and avoid going up and down, there is no risk in flight mission and save battery for continuing mission in most performance.

What is the highest point between the takeoff location and the flight plan starting point? Lets just say it is 200 meters. If the aircraft had to go to 220 meters to be able to clear that it would be breaking maximum altitude rules that are in place in many places. In the US, you cannot fly over 120 meters. So immediately this flight is breaking that rule before it even goes anywhere. If we maintain the terrain hugging throughout the flight can be executed legally.

The whole idea behind terrain awareness is to keep an equal AGL altitude throughout the flight. This makes it so you can map at the highest legal altitudes and still be able to cover terrain. If we took off and went up to the highest point immediately it would break that.

Terrain awareness is a very good manner in flight but what I'm talking about is another thing. If drone go to highest point based on start flight mission and after that positioning go up and down base on terrain, battery consuming is very effective.

If there is one kilometer between take off and starting point of flight mission and terrain has high and low points in this distance, battery charge completely used and mission doesn't complete.

Imagine a situation that I wanna start taking picture from one kilometer away from my take off point and I'm not in U.S territory and terrain like Sin wavelength. If drone go to highest elevation in this path toward my interested point for taking picture and avoid going up and down, we can save much battery energy and complete our mission.

As you know, power consumption in rising and lowering is more than flying in a constant elevation.
