More Up To Date Basemaps

How do we get the most up to date online maps? I need to map a solar farm in South America, however the solar farm is not visible, which indicates the map data is outdated. I do get to see the solar farm on Google Earth.

Our app uses the Apple Maps standard map as the basemap. If your area is not covered well by that you can try to change the basemap type in the Map Control pullout slider (bottom pullout on the left) to see another basemap. You can see the streets version which might help if your area is occluded by clouds or the other "satellite" view that we use to cache up maps for offline operation. Sometimes that shows a different level of detail.

Having an alternate means to input the survey area boundaries has been frequently requested and is in the works. We are looking into adding the Google Maps version as a basemap too.

I'm having the same issues here in Nigeria.
When do you expect these upgrades introduced?

I can't actually believe that I am addressing someone else named Tudor. This has never happened before... Ever.

After checking out some of the locations where you are mapping we can see that the Apple Maps coverage there is really bad... We are working to add a Google Maps layer to Map Pilot in the next month or so. We are waiting for DJI to fix a couple other issues first before doing our next release.

The cached tiles come from a service called MapBox and their international coverage is really bad too.

Maps Made Easy will not provide a Google Maps basemap since using Google Maps in any sort of private setting is prohibitively expensive.

"We are working to add a Google Maps layer to Map Pilot" - am I right in assuming that this is not likely to happen? My Map Pilot app has only Apple Maps as for satellite imagery.

Though I can cache ArcGIS Imagery...

There is no real way for us to switch to Google Maps as a basemap source without changing all of the interactions too which is no going to happen.

Since this post, 5 years ago, we have added various ways to include your own basemap including Mapbox and ArcGIS integrations. We are considering adding a TMS tile source as well.
