3D Models of Buildings Misshapen

We have just found out about your services and tried a test project on our industrial estate. However the buildings are not formed correctly it was done with an Inspire 1. How can we rectify this and moving forward how can we stop this from happening on future projects as some of your examples does seem to have these issues.

For a full 3D model to come out well, more data has to be collected. It appears all of your data was taken from directly above and lacks the detail required to correctly reconstruct the scene.

In order to get the detail you need, images need to be taken from some other directions. One way of doing this is by using our app and adjusting the camera pointing up about 20 degrees from it's straight down position. To make sure you have enough detail for all sides of structures, this should then be repeated with a mission for the same area that is rotated 90 degrees so it will form a criss-crossed flight pattern.

These instructions have helped a lot of people make some pretty nice 3D models.

We plan on adding a 3D capture setting to the Map Pilot app.

Jonathan,
We hope to add the full 3D capture mode to Map Pilot in the next few weeks depending on demand. It is pretty easy to do it now by just adjusting the gimbal up a bit from nadir (as was mentioned above) so it isn't a big priority.

Tudor, in the case of a single bldg would I have to fly the entire mission again, or just capture the bldg from all sides and re process?

In order to rerun a job you will have to reupload the imagery, but you can certainly go back and take more images to supplement the images you have already taken.

So, in my case (only one building on the map ( a public safety training facility) all I need to do is do a 360 flight around the building and point the camera up about 20 deg from straight down and rerun all images? Do I need to remove the previous building images?

Doing the full 3D reconstruction takes a lot of images from all angles. Sometimes you have to include angles that are level with the ground to get detail under overhangs. This is a pretty complicated topic.

We have seen people do a circle around the building just above ground level and then do another from higher up looking down at 45 degrees and then other few images from directly above. These have turned out pretty well. Basically, you want to get all angles you care about turning out well.
