Erratic flight behaviour at start of mission

After several failed attempts to get my Inspire 1 to engage with the Drones Made Easy App on my Iphone 6 I finally managed to upload and start a mission by hovering off the ground using the DJI GO app first then selecting the DME App and switching to F mode. I uploaded the mission and pressed start. The drone rose rapidly to the correct height, turned towards the start point and started to move forward. Almost immediately it started to oscillate wildly in pitch. This was very disconcerting and under fear of an imminent crash, I switched back to P mode and flew it home manually without further incident.
I am running all the latest software on my phone, my Inspire and the DME software - any suggestions?

This is an error that DJI knows about. It is in their firmware and will hopeful be addressed in the next version that will be released soon. It isn't caused by the Map Pilot app. Map Pilot doesn't actually control the flight at all and relies solely on DJI's waypoint navigation functionality.

We have referred to this internally as "bucking". It appears to be doing altitude adjustments every second or so and adjusting quickly upward even though it is fairly close to the target altitude.

You took the appropriate action. We have done A LOT of mapping and it has happened on on off for entire flights without actually causing any issues. It is certainly a little unnerving though.

Thanks for the quick reply. If it's in their firmware then how have I never seen quite this behaviour previously when flying the DJI GO App F modes? I have noticed that it is a little more abrupt during direction changes in the F modes but never anything as violent as I experienced yesterday using the Map Pilot App.
I'll put Map Pilot App on hold for now then as I don't think my heart could take the strain! Can you let us know when this issue has been addressed?

How much waypoint flying have you done on the Go app? Map Pilot allows you to do much more of it more easily so the issue shows up more often. We have had it happen in the Go app as well even though we haven't done any missions that cover nearly as much ground as the Map Pilot app allows you to do.

Also, it doesn't happen all the time. Maybe 1 in every 20 flights or so.

I has to be a firmware issue because it does it when being controlled by DJI Go, the DJI SDK sample app and Map Pilot.

Feel free to write dev@dji.com an email and let them know about the bucking issue and maybe they will be able to tell you when it will addressed.

I've flown several DJI waypoint missions and re-flown several to monitor the consistency. For what they are it seems to work ok apart from being unnecessarily abrupt at times but they have some way to go with its development before it could be called a polished offering. I have to say that it is a pain not being able to pre-plan the mission and that is what attracted me to The Map Pilot App in the first place.
I will e-mail DJI with the problem and report your observations and suggestions too. Thanks for your advice.
