I have v5.8.2 and got exactly the same behaviour. I changed battery, resumed mission and it hovered at 30m, with no manual control (forward, backward or rudder) tried several times. I can only think that I need to restart dji fly at every battery change to enable log in ( I closed it out after startup for the first battery) do I need to keep dji fly open in the background?

Mark: From your log file it looks like the aircraft may have still be initializing when you took off and that might have interrupted the takeoff state.
You never want to use any other drone related apps while using Map Pilot Pro unless you want your aircraft to fly into the nearest (or furthest) tree.
Tried again, came to first battery change, same behaviour, hovered at 30m. I landed, pushed map pilot to background launched dji fly, made sure it connected then closed it out completely. Switched back to map pilot and took off, it continued mapping where it left off. Did the same for the second battery change, it went without a hitch. It seems that I must connect to dji fly at the start of every battery change to get rid of that 30m limit - thoughts on how to avoid this?
It sounds like it could be a No Fly Zone related issue based on what you are describing. This is how we handle those for repeatable results:
Definitely not a no fly zone, I’ve flown here many times prior to trying out mapping. The behaviour I’m seeing is similar to that of not logging into dji first. From the manual: flight is restricted to a height of 30 m and a range of 50m when not connected to or logged into the app during flight. Is there a setting that I’m missing?
Can you please share where you got that info? There is a setting in the DJI app to remove that limit.
The info is in the mavic air 2 user manual, page 2.
The setting in the dji fly app only refers to beginner mode, which, in my case is definitely turned off
Are you sure your firmware is completely up to day? Aircraft and remote?
And the batteries.
Looks like one of my batteries needed an update (i installed each battery and checked for update) coincidentally it was battery number 2, which is the one I use for my first battery change. I’ll try another short mission later today.

Dji fly gave no indication that the firmware for the battery was not up to date. Must have missed the battery when I originally updated to the latest firmware 🤔

For those following this discussion,at first I couldn't figure out how to update the firmware of my batteries (12 batteries for two Air 2S's). I think that when you update the firmware for your drone in DJI Fly app, it is updating either or both the drone and the battery, depending on which is out of date.
I started a big project by making sure that my drones had up-to-date firmware, but since the DJI Fly doesn't make it clear, I didn't update every battery, and this caused all sorts of problems. Updating all my batteries seems to have solved my problems.
And, as others have stated, the DJI App gave me no indication that the firmware was out of date until I pushed the "check firmware" button.
