Manual Camera Settings

I have been using the Camera control to manually set an X5 camera. When checking the EXIF info I noticed that the ISO appears to be changing from the value I set it to. I did notice the ISO value was changing in the display but I thought it must have been a bug. After all manual is manual. If I set a camera to manual then I expect that I will have total control of aperature, shutter speed, focus and iso. Is Map Pilot over riding my settings for some reason?

I know that Map Pilot is designed to do the best job possible to ensure the data is useable but honestly, anyone doing mapping should know the basics of exposure and setting them manually is always preferable.

We are unable to reproduce what you are seeing. The Manual setting in Map Pilot must be used, not in DJI Go since Map Pilot doesn't honor external settings for the camera. The X5 is a bit of a special case so things might be weird with that but with the Phantom 4 Pro and other tested cameras we are seeing that the exposure time, aperture and EV were all staying put.

The values in the EXIF reflect the values shown in the camera preview.

Did you do these tests with an X5 camera? I was not using DJI Go to set the camera. Not only did I see the wrong ISO in the EXIF info but when I was flying and had the ISO manually set to 100 the software was showing crazy values in the ISO setting such as 3200 and higher.

I'll do my best to get some more examples for you as soon as I can get out and do some tests.

No. We don't keep an X5 camera on hand to test with so it may have different behavior. It has been problematic since its release and we don't generally recommend its use. The next time we have one in the shop we will try to give it a look.

What issues have you found with the X5?

It's sensor size and choice of lens makes it a fantastic choice. I use it almost exclusively for mapping and I get great results. What else would you use on an Inspire or a M600? I think the issues people have with it are that you need to know a bit about photography to get the most out of it. I don't think that's a major expectation considering we are talking professionals making a living.

We don't use Phantoms in my business due to the small sensor/lens and the lack of redundancy.

The X5 has always had a lot of focusing issues and the gimbals have more issues than most.
