I have recently conducted two surveys in steep terrain in two separate locations with Map Pilot using the terrain follow function. On the first site it was just myself with an Inspire 2 but on the second site there were two operators with separate DJI Inspire 2s.
On both occasions, and with both Inspires, we had an issue on the downhill legs. On the uphill the terrain following worked as expected but on the downhill the aircraft would fly horizontally before descending at the very end of the leg. We used the function to map over thirty areas, most with battery changes and this behavior was consistent throughout, not once did it maintain height on the downhill leg.
The location of these surveys was South Island, New Zealand and wind conditions varied from dead calm to approx 5+m/s.
I noticed a similar thread to this one bit did not see a conclusion.
