Detention Pond Capture

I did some reading and may have missed it, but what overlap setting would you recommend when trying to capture topo data of a detention pond?  Is there a recommended elevation to fly?  Then a specific overlap recommended?  I believe we used the typical setting of 80% and the pond shows up flat.  So not sure what we are doing wrong.

80% overlap would be fine with good mapping aircraft such as the Phantom 4 Pro or the Mavic 2 Pro. The Mavic Air has a pretty low quality camera on it so you aren't going to get great results. We generally don't recommend it for anything other than messing around.

Zane as much as I can appreciate that I can run the same drone photos thru a competitors system and have no problem getting topo results that seem pretty accurate. Your setup however fits my pricing and use as I am not a high end user by any stretch. I assumed that my settings just weren't right. It would seem that bad camera if it is should still get some topo but I get nothing. Just flat images. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

We can't really see your settings since you don't have your flight sync uploads turned on in Map Pilot.

The Mavic Air has a really slow rolling shutter. If the images are not all taken at the same speed the features the system would be matching are stretched differently. We make certain assumptions about the data coming in (our Data Collection guidelines cover most of them) and if the data doesn't follow those poor outputs are the result. You can overcome certain things by using more overlap but at some point it just makes sense to take better data.
