Imperial units on elevations

I have always had the "Use Metric" box X-ed (not using metric), but the DEM and txt files, etc always have elevations in meters. This is a mess because also, in QGIS, for some reason even when I convert them to feet in a new DEM file, the contours extraction still 'thinks' in metric. I don't know if they're related, but at least it'd be nice for my data to come out of MME in imperial so I can then chase down the problem there. Thanks!

The 'Use Metric' box just changes how the units are displayed on the MME site for the basic data in the Map Detail views. The files are always generated using metric units. Everything thinks in metric... Whatever software you are using will need to be able to convert the units for you. I would imagine this is pretty standard though since almost everything everywhere gets processed in metric.

Hi Zane. Thanks, I thought it might be something baked in to the WGS84 for example. It turned out that the QGIS installation was 'bad', meaning I installed it on my work computer, ran my workflow with the same DEM file (converting to ft) and everything worked fine. Thanks! So I've deleted and re-installed the QGIS.
