Could it be that the drone has taken a shot while landed between flights and this has caused focus setting change? it have happened to me that my drone took a photo at batt change time, and I can't remember having pressed trigger button. As a result I had a photo with the drone landed.

I'm not sure about what I'm saying, just guessing but I just wonder if exif stores focus distance in your x5 photos and you can chek this.

With previous flights the copter will take a photo in the nadir position before takeoff (a maps made easy default setting I believe), and this has never caused any issues. Typically this photo is out of focus as it is pointed at the ground that is only inches away form the sensor, but I doubt this is the sole reason. Thank you for the input though.

Got the same problem with an Inspire 1 and X5 camera. Firt battery ok and then the second get very blurry.

I've been having the same problem with my Inspire 1 Pro using another app which was why I purchased this app to see if I could solve my issue. I'm about to go try it out but I wondering if this is a problem with the recent firmware updates.

Also when using the two finger tap, are there any on screen icons that show the new focus is set? We have been testing using this new feature but since the preview window is small it is tough to tell if the focus changes.

If you watch carefully you will likely see it go through its focus procedure but there is no feed back for the quality of the achieved focus.

Is there a reason why you don't just set focus to infinity?

There is no setting to focus the camera to infinity. Also, infinity may not be appropriate for lower flight altitudes. 

At F2 the hyperfocal distance is somewhere around 4m with the 15mm lens.  Surely no one is mapping at an altitude lower than that.  I'm not sure what distance the app is focusing at but it must be something closer than 4 - 8 meters.  I'm going to have to go back to flying manually with the GO app where I can set focus to infinity until this gets fixed.  It's very frustrating because I love the app other than not being able to reliable take focused photos.

Some devs are apparently beginning to figure out how to set default focus.

We will look into it but we do have users mapping down to 5 meters... If the camera can't pull an autofocus due to low light conditions chances are the images won't process well anyway.

We can see a way to set the focus to infinity but will have to do a lot of testing to make sure it won't break things. 

That would be awesome.  I really want to use this app.  I just need to be able to trust that the focus is at a length longer than the hyperfocal length.  Almost everything I do is from >200 feet. 

Even when focused to infinity my DOF calculator is telling me you need to get to an aperture larger than 3 before <5 meters is out of focus. 

I'm probably biased but it seems more reasonable to default to infinity and let the few people who want to map closer than 5 meters know that they should use an aperture larger than three and/or use autofocus as opposed to having what I assume is the bulk of your Inspire users making maps form higher elevation deal with blurry photos because the autofocus system gets confused and focuses at a small distance.

Of course it may not all be as simple in reality as it seems in my head.

I agree with you Brian! I fly most of the time between 300 ans 400 feets, so infinite focus would be very appréciate with my Inspire 1 Pro.

I did some testing to work around this yesterday by opening the Go app, set focus to manual, set focus to infinity, turned off the physical autofocus switch on the lens.  After doing that the focus controls in Go don't work anymore.  Same thing in map pilot.  Ran a 4 battery job today from 400' and 250' without focus problems.

 I also have this focus problem with the X5. I usualy flie between 300 and 400 fts

To fix it, A bit like did Brien, I calibrate in DJI go at 400m to have infinite focus. On the lens, manually put to manual focus. Did a 3 battery mission with all photos focused.
