Please recommend best ipads for Map Pilot Pro

Please recommend which ipads are the best for use with Map Pilot Pro. I have used an ipad mini 4 / P4P for many years with Map Pilot and now understand that I need to upgrade to avoid the multitude of errors that I am having. Perhaps you could add your reccomendations to the "Supported Hardware" article.

I am very appreciative of Map Pilot Pro - thanks for your dedication to it's improvement and adding useful features with each release. IMost of my missions involve large areas on steep ground, so your terrain awareness feature is indispensable. Thanks!

The best option is the buy the most recently released device you can. We understand that some are a lot cheaper and there is a draw to get older devices. We have already been on the iPad mini 5 for about 3 years. It is still going super strong but who knows how much longer that will last. I think a 4 year lifespan for a device is good. That is not 4 years from the time you get it (less good). That is 4 years from the time it is released.

If I were buying something right now I would get the new iPad mini 6 (or equivalent) with the A15 chip. That way you can plan on getting a solid 4 years out of it.

Thanks Zane! Upgrade to mini 6 is on the way! Does the development team use Mini 6 or are there other ipads that are even better? To get me through yesterdays mission with my ipad 4, I disabled object avoidance on the p4p, and kept the camera window closed in MPP. It worked but only just. Things got worse after battery swap.

Is there anyone out there using an ipad mini 4 ( iOS 15.x) and latest MPP without issues?

We use the Mini 5 as has been our recommendation for a few years.

Other things you can do to get the iPad mini 4 to work are get the battery replaced, make sure "Auto Clear Image Points" is disabled, hide the camera preview, do not show the Image Footprint, and hide the terrain plot.

Can the battery be tested to see if it needs to be replaced? This one is only used for MMP and DJI Go 4, and not a used on a daily basis. The battery seems as good as it was when new and is not swollen at all.

I already have the image footprint disabled, and will disable the image points, though they are very helpful to provide the visual that the shutter is triggering on a steady pattern. Seeing gaps in the image points pattern have helped in making a quick decision weather to continue mission or abort.

I am using SanDisk Extreme 32 gb card. Is there a faster card? Or any other settings that would Could slow image storage add to the problems?

Are there any settings or tweeks on the ipad that would reduce cpu loading? I never have any other app running when I am using MPP.

Even though the mini 6 will become my primary tablet, it would still be nice to be able to use the mini 4 as a backup, or if I need to send out the other P4P with another pilot at the same time.

Hi Zane,

I heard of compatibility problems of ipad mini 6 with Phantom 4 Pro v1.For some people works with usb-c adapter.

Do you have any feedback from clients that ipad mini 6 works good with P4P v1?

Hi Zane,

I had to buy a new ipad mini because the mini 4 doesn't hold anymore.

I decided to go with mini 5 because mini 6 has problems connecting with the rc.

The mini 5 came with iOS 13. Should I upgrade to iOS 15.7? Are there any known issues with the app?

There shouldn't be any problems with iOS 15.7 and the iPad mini 5.

We have not done much testing with iOS 16 but it seems to be fine.
