Air 2

Hi!

Any idea when Map Pilot will have compatibility with the Mavic Air 2?

Thanks

UPDATE: DJI has decided not to give the Mavic Air 2 series of aircraft waypoint support. Map Pilot Pro requires waypoint support and cannot support any aircraft that does not support waypoint flight. There are other apps that use a different way to fly waypoints but it is only applicable for smaller flights that are close to the pilot.

DJI hasn't released SDK support for the Mavic Air 2 yet. Once they release it, it takes us a while to test things and get support in for new aircraft after we decide that we are actually going to support it. We are still not totally sure we will be supporting the Mavic Air 2. The original Mavic Air is not suitable for mapping and we never should have supported it. We hope this is not the case with the Mavic Air 2 but we should know in the next week or so after some more testing.

Any update on the testing for the Mavic Air 2 and the potential for supporting it?

DJI just released the SDK update so we are not working to get it added. It will be supported in version 5.0 of Map Pilot.

Zane just replied the following to me: “ DJI has still not added support for the Mavic Air 2 to the SDK which allows us to talk to it. Until then you can download the LITE version for free for evaluation purposes.“

In this post is Todor’s reply is that: “ DJI just released the SDK update so we are not working to get it added. It will be supported in version 5.0 of Map Pilot.“

Now, who is correct?

Sorry, I was mistaken. A new version was released and I assumed that it had support for the Mavic Air 2. It does not.

As of 9/22/20 the current DJI SDK version is still 4.13.1. which does not support the Mavic Air 2.

I see that over on the DJI developer forum site, there is a post from DJI that says:

"We are all very excited about DJI's newest product, the Mavic Air 2!  I know many of the developers out there using DJI's SDK will be wondering if the SDK is going to support it.  The answer is yes!  But first we are working on supporting the Mavic Mini within the next few months and then after that, we'll release support for the Mavic Air 2 before the end of 2020.  There is no set timeline yet but stay tuned to the forum and release notes for updates.

@zane, you said back in June "We are still not totally sure we will be supporting the Mavic Air 2. The original Mavic Air is not suitable for mapping and we never should have supported it. We hope this is not the case with the Mavic Air 2 but we should know in the next week or so after some more testing. "

Do you know now whether the Mavic Air 2 is suitable for mapping, and whether you will be supporting it once there is support in the DJI SDK?

Wow. It is a bit weird how long they are taking with that...

We will likely be supporting it in 12 megapixel mode ONLY when support is added.

Yep, it's a total bummer.  DroneNerds convinced me that instead of repairing my crashed Phantom 3 Pro I should buy a Mavic Air 2, only to find that I cannot map with it yet, the main application I use my drone for.  :(

Any update on this? Will Map Pilot be able to support Mavic Air 2? Or has anyone found another option?

The SDK update has finally been released as a trial version which is not likely something we will be able to release with but we will start the work on it. Support for the Mavic Air 2 will likely only be in versions 5.0 and up.

From DJI today:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for contacting DJI.
Sorry that the Mavic Air 2 is not supported by both the waypoint mission V1 and V2, limited by the drone itself.

Thanks,

We have added Virtual Stick support for the Mavic Air 2 since it does not support waypoint flight. It is currently in beta but we are hoping to release it soon. Any currently supported aircraft can actually use our Virtual Stick support.

We plan on supporting the Air 2S, Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced and Mavic 3 when DJI updates the SDK. We hear this might happen at the end of March. Allegedly...

You can download the beta version here:

Otherwise keep an eye out for the public release of 5.4.0.

Hi. I am using an Air 2 and Map Pilot Pro. I got the message: Focus Failed: Cameraa does not support adjustable focus point.

What does it means and what are the impact on my images?

Don't worry about that. We universally try to focus the camera at a certain point in the flight. Some cameras need to be focused and others do not. Yours does not so don't worry about it.
