Can't view mission in Google Earth

The last time I exported a mission via email I was able to view the .kmz in Google Earth. The .kmz would show up under the Temporary Places folder in GE and GE placemarks would appear for each waypoint. This doesn't work anymore. The .kmz stills shows up but the placemarks don't show.

I suspect the reason is that the new version of Map Pilot Pro (5.12.13) was installed. Is there a work around for this?

We are sorry to hear that the Google Earth part of your workflow isn't working anymore. In our efforts to increase the compatibility of what is created by Map Pilot Pro for use in DJI Fly we had to change the format of the KMZ that gets created. In the newer versions of DJI Fly the KMZ files DJI creates have the KML files in a folder called 'wpmz'. This is part of their standard. We are trying to duplicate it exactly as they do it so certain aspects of the files will go more smoothly between the apps. This may have affected the ability to open it in Google Earth but Google Earth compatibility is not part of our goal. 

I do not currently have any workarounds for you since we are just trying to match what DJI does and their format doesn't seem to work in Google Earth either.

We found a workaround for the KMZ files in the new format. 

To view a kmz as a kml in google earth
  1. Rename the file to .zip,
  2. Unzip it
  3. In wpmz folder, rename the waylines.wpml file to waylines.kml
  4. Opening waylines.kml in google earth should show all the place marks

Thanks, I had figured out how to extract and rename the .wpml to a .kml (.kmz also works)

Viewing in GE allows me to see any problems with the waypoints. If the area covered has concave corners < 90° it's possible waypoints will be omitted. Better to see that and correct before the copy/rename dance required to get it into a waypoint mission.
