Custom Terrain Update?

Again, I love the app and the concept of using custom terrain. However, I have a ton of my own terrain data that I would like to use (We're a mine with elevation changes of >500'). I've seen it hinted that this feature is in the works and was hoping for an update on this.

This would be extremely valuable (~$100 in app purchase?)! Nobody else out there is offering something like this on iOS that I know of.

Hey Zane-

I have considered doing that, but I'm also sitting on TBs of DEM's that would be nice to be able use (Collected via manned flights). I guess i was hoping for a bit of an update on this statement:

"In the future we plan on adding the capability to upload arbitrary DEMs but currently the only source is jobs that have been processed by Maps Made Easy."

(From here)

This feature would be really great to have!!

I would gladly be a beta tester if you need one!

We don't really get enough requests for this feature for it to be a high priority.

Me too! The only problem I see is how each user will convert their data from their coordinate systems to WGS84. If the user is surveyor or geoscientist this is an easy task.

If you want this feature, email us some links to examples of files you would use.

We plan on accepting DEM TIF and IMG files only.

We generally test with the 1/3 arc-sec (10m) data here:

https://viewer.nationalmap.gov/basic

3 meter data is also available from this source for select areas within the US.

The following link (10m) is an example of what we are looking for:

We typically fly large earth moving projects (like landfills and mining operations), so we need to have the ability to take current survey data and create updated DEMs (exported from Civil 3D or ESRI ArcMap) for Terrain Following.  Below is a link to Site here in San Diego, that has a 1'x1' Geotiff in NAD83 State Plane Zone 6.  Is it possible to configure your software to accept this?

Thanks.

Hi Zane,

I also created a GeoTiff from my own sources. It is converted from local system to WGS84.

Please download from this link and check if it works.

Thanks!

Hi Zane,

I realize the previous two geotiffs I sent may not work for your platform b/c I exported the data out in a CA state plane mapping projection.  Please use this link instead for a different geotiff exported out from ESRI ArcMap 10.6 in WGS84 Web Mercator format.

George: Yours does not work because it is RAR'd. It needs to be a native IMG or TIF file.

Zane,

inside the rar file is the TIF file and two world files (prj and tfw).

I thought to include them in case you need them.

So you can test with just the TIF file.

Please try again.

Only links to IMG or TIF files will work. I didn't even try to open it because it is the wrong file type. The data files need to be in the correct format and be single files with embedded location information. See the other examples here.

The projection won't matter as long as it is something standard. We will do the transformations that are needed as long as they follow certain rules.

Hi Zane,

Did my last WGS84.tif format work for you?

Thanks,

Mike

We will only be accepting publicly downloadable files and the URL must end it .tif or .img.

It is OK to strip off ?dl=1 and stuff like that to get to the bare URL.

George: Both of those links will work.

Michael: Your files are OK but the links won't work. The files will be automatically downloaded and processed by our system so links to online drives that need to be clicked through won't cut it.

Ok thanks. When do you think this feature will be ready in the app for roll out?

Thanks!

Maybe soon for manual submissions. It may be integrated directly into a future version of Map Pilot.

That's great!  I would be happy to test if you like.  I have a 100 acre flight for a landfill site with a fair amount of elevation relief the week of 1/28.  Happy to share results/feedback if you like.

Thanks again.

We will be charging 10 Maps Made Easy per acre to process and host the custom terrain data.

Ok sounds good.  I assume I can pay just pay that fee just to host custom the terrain data?  I usually process on my desktop with other software.

Thanks

It just uses normal Maps Made Easy points. You can use them for processing the imagery or custom terrain hosting.

We do a lot of processing and chopping up of an incoming DEM to get it ready for Map Pilot to deal with.

You can process your imagery anywhere you want.

perfect let us us know when we can try this new option out.  I'm local here in SD, so let me know if I can help in anyway I can.  Thanks

Michael: Do you have direct links to the other two from One Drive? The last one you posted was 7532232419.97 acres... I don't think you want to do that.

Wow yes you’re correct. :) That particular one is supposed to be around 300acres, so maybe the export .tif from ArcGIS in WGS84 Web Mercator format got messed up somehow by me only including the .tif and not the .tfw file. The first 2 files were direct geotiff exports from Civil 3D in NAD83 CA state plane format. I think you said those would still convert ok? If so, I may send you the same format, but for the Site I have to fly at the end of the month. Let me know if a geotiff with embedded NAD83 CA State Plane (USft) is ok when you have time. I will pay for that one (~150acres). Thanks!
