Importing Full Map from Google Earth to Mapbox for Maps Made Easy

Hi,

We are in the process of shooting roofs. New structures are problematic because they don't appear in the Maps Made Easy maps.

We are having difficulty in importing the full map (i.e. the satellite image) from Google Earth to Mapbox for use in Maps Made Easy. In Mapbox we are able to import the kml. file but it only depicts the outline of the selected polygon from Google Earth. No doubt we're missing something very straight forward here, but would appreciate any advise on how to select an area from Google Earth and have it appear in it's entirety in Mapbox for use in Maps Made Easy....or direct from Google Earth to Maps Made Easy if that function is available? Many thanks.

There is no direct way to import data from Google Earth into Mapbox.

You could take a high altitude overview map of the entire area you care about and then import that GeoTiff into Mapbox if you want to do it that way.

OK great thanks. We'll give that a crack and see how it goes.

If Mapbox supports GeoTIFF or JPG or BMP with a ESRI world file (JGW or BPW extension) you can export from Google Earth using Google Satellite Map Downloader. You can try if for free at zoom level 13 but if you need hi-res then the program cost $49.95. I've used it several times and it works well. The program first downloads several small images. Then the software will combine them into a single image with a world file. Don't know why it makes this a two step process but they do. Be careful going past a zoom level of 18.

Harry: Interesting solution. We are pretty sure that that software is illegal in the eyes of Google but it is interesting to know it exists.
