Mission Length

Hi guys,

I was talking with a user of Drone Deploy's capture app and he mentioned a mission on a 70 acre site and I was surprised when he said he completed it with one battery with a P3P. He said the parameters were 70 side/ 75 front overlaps and a height of 300'.

So, I downloaded DD plugged in those parameters on a 70 acre square plan and sure enough, it estimated 15 1/2 minutes. I mocked up the same mission in MP and it estimates 33 minutes.

Can you explain why MP would estimate twice as long? Thanks!

What do you have your flight speed set to? That will likely affect things...

Map Pilot adjusts the speed according the the along track overlap setting and the SD Card write speed. If you have the SD card write speed set to 2 seconds between images that will allow you to fly the fastest possible.

The FOV of the camera matters too. A 94 degree Phantom 3 will cover ground faster than a narrower FOV Mavic.

Map Pilot accounts for all of this automatically and doesn't let you fly faster than your camera/sdcard can handle.

As I said, this is on a P3, his and mine.

I moved the speed slider all the way up to 26 mph (as high as it would go) and it did indeed lower the time to close to what DD estimates. However, I know from experience that the craft is going to fly at around 8 mph if I remember correctly. I will try to make the time to fly an actual mission with both and see what I get. Thanks.

The aircraft flies at the speed it gets told to. All of this is shown in Map Pilot. There is the user selected max speed but then it also shows what it is limited to because of overlap or altitude.
