Mavic 3 enterprise APK

Any word on when the Mavic 3 Enterprise will be supported with the Android APK?
I've been flying mine for a few days, but the "mapping mission" inside of DJI pilot 2 is SO clunky.

Now that we have the Android version up and going we are now working to add support for the newer DJI aircraft which requires a completely separate SDK with a new waypoint system. We hope to have something out by the Thanksgiving.

Hi Zane, We are still flying with a Topodrone P4P V2 conversion. This drone is known and continues have yaw drift issues when flying. I assume the yaw drift issues have been fixed with the new Mavic 3 Enterprise? Is this something you can confirm?

Any Update on Timing for the M3E?  Thanksgiving is this week...  ;)

It is working but not releasable at this point. We got sidetracked fixing some stability issues with various Android devices. It shouldn't be too much longer though. Aside from stopping crashing, it is our main priority for the Android version.

Central Coast: We don't know if the M3E will have the same issue. I would assume it has been fixed based on the imagery we have seen in the system so far.

Hi Zane, any update yet on Map Pilot support for the M3E?  Trying to be patient but I have SO much map work lined up and my tired (but trusty) mavic 2's are looking for a break!

We know you are flying a ton right now. We are working on getting the M3E going full time right now. DJI made it especially hard to add support to existing apps since apparently we can't add the version 4 SDK (support for old aircraft) into the same app as the version 5 SDK (support for new aircraft). We will likely have a separate APK for the new enterprise aircraft until that get sorted out.

Thanks for hanging in there. We hope to have a beta by the end of the week this week assuming there are no more snags.

Excellent!
I have around 4000 acres left to fly before Dec 31; I'll keep an eye open for the beta release and get it installed ASAP.

We may have a beta version available today. Please email mapping@dronesmadeeasy.com for an APK download link.

The waypoint system for the new DJI SDK is a really big change from how they used to do it. So for now we are using our Virtual Stick controls to execute the flight plans. This has worked well for thousands of flights with the Mini 2 and Air 2/2S aircraft and seems to work great with the strong M3E RC signal.

We plan on having a waypoint version available soon but this will get impatient users something well tested to work with quickly.

Again, please email mapping@dronesmadeeasy.com for an APK download link.

Haha, well, I am certainly among those "impatient users!"
Email sent :)

That's awesome you've got it going on the RC Pro Ent controller now.

I'm curious if the M3E camera will make it into the general release so I can plan and set up missions on my ipad, even though I'd have to fly it over on Android.

We are working to get the new waypoints system working. We got the Virtual Stick stuff going but apparently it needs some tuning to be useful in the wild.

DJI has said that they are only doing Android moving forward so it doesn't sound like there is any chance it will work with iOS. So we won't likely add that camera in there.

But... the layout tools are all pretty much the same between the Android and iOS releases (aside from the Sampling and Spot mission types).

If you make a plan on your iPad and sync it to your account using some other camera the layout can be updated for the M3E. The boundary, orientation, and settings would stay the same but the flight path would get updated for the different camera.

We have waypoints working with the Mavic 3 Enterprise now if anyone wants to try the most recent beta.

Added Waypoint flight
Fixed screen turning off
Added everything in 1.1.9 release list since 1.2.0
Fixed logfile sync (hopefully)

Known issues:
  • pausing mission ends up exiting the mission
  • haven’t resolved the battery restart, the drone doesn’t reappear
  • Mapbox annotations may disappear

That's great news Zane!  I've downloaded the APK; I'll install it right away, but the weather forecast in the PNW for the next few days is...well...bad.  Not good for drone work, anyway.  I'll send it up on a mapping flight during the next decent weather day.

Hi Zane, I am going to try out the new beta today (1.2.0). However it wont let me reduce the sidelap percentage lower than 75%. Is this a known issue?

Zane, please disregard my last comment. I did not have my aircraft and camera defined. It now works.

There is always a camera defined even though it might not be the right one. The P4P is the default since it is the most commonly used aircraft.

That issue is more likely tied to you not having been logged in with your Pro account which enables the setting of the overlap to values less than 75%.

Hi Zane. I went to fly the Mavic 3E drone today with the new 1.2.0 APK and ran into an issue. After uploading the flight, the software asked if I wanted to use terrain aware settings and I said yes. It then came back with an error dialog box:

Profiler Error: Insufficient location count. Do you want to continue uploading the mission without terrain adjusted waypoints?

I'm not sure how to resolve this. I have attached a screen shot.

Apparently terrain awareness isn't working on the new waypoint stuff yet. Sorry for not having that in the list of limitations. That is next on our list.

Another thing they may want to check is if the "adjust speed according to light conditions" is working correctly. It felt like it was not taking this into account even though this setting was turned on.

Here is the latest release for 1.2.2 of the beta:

https://dmefiles.s3.amazonaws.com/MapPilotPro_122beta_12222022.apk

Terrain Awareness is now working. We are aware that the speed adjustment isn't working. With the new DJI SDK it seems to only do what you program it to do when you take off, including the speeds. Speed adjustments can no longer be made during flight. We are looking into workarounds.

Also, the new DJI SDK does not currently allow us to adjust the flight height limitation so Pilot 2 would need to be used for that.

Hi Zane. Since the speed adjustment is not working do you think your team could come up with a matrix of recommended speeds at different altitudes and lighting conditions for the Mavic 3 Enterprise?

Map Pilot Pro will initially allow you to fly as fast as the camera frame rate, along track overlap, and altitude settings will allow. Then the flight speed gets adjusted downward if there is not enough light to keep the motion blur under the designated amount (2X GSD is the default setting).

https://support.dronesmadeeasy.com/hc/en-us/articles/209866886-Light-Based-Speed-Adjustment

The M3E camera can support framing as fast as .7 seconds per frame. This will allow for the maximum waypoint flight speed of up to 15 m/s at most overlap/altitude combinations.

So, the issue of the light speed adjustment not working is especially prevalent in the M3E since it is allowed to fly so fast and isn't currently being adjusted down.

Until we have a fix for this you can do one of two things: slow down the frame rate (SD Card Write Speed in the Settings) or manually adjust the speed you want it to fly. We can't really give you a speed that would be best because it depends on the subject matter and lighting conditions. Start at 10 m/s and adjust up or down from there as needed after keeping an eye on the Motion Blur numbers.

Hi Zane, I flew with the latest beta 123e and it is flying well. However, it is not calculating the motion blur while flying. Only shows 0.0 in. Do I have  a setting that might be off? Below is a screen shot.

Great! Be sure to sync your flights when you are done. We are still working on adding the camera stuff. That is the key factor in getting the light based speed adjustment going.

Hi Zane

As far as I am aware, the M3E needs the DJI smartremote controller to operate.  You can't run it with smartphones or tablets.  Is that correct?

If so, can we download MapPilot Pro directly onto the Controller from Google Play store?  The key feature I am hanging out for from MapPilot Pro with the M3E (RTK) is terrain following.  Is that supported through the App for M3E?  Thanks, Peter
