merging geotifs

If I merge several geotifs in QGIS will there still be hard outer edges seen from each of the separate tifs or is a seamless image?

Also, if I compress separate geotifs in Q first and then merge will the final image still be clear and in correct location?

No coloring or blending is done by default when merging rasters so the edges will be how they are originally.

They should all still have the georeferencing but they may take longer to do further processing on once compressed.
