Compatible for autonomous flight

1. I see a big list of drones including DJI Mini2 and Air 2S. Mini2 does not support SDK. Just wondering can Mini2 or air 2S be able to use for autonomous flight.

2. For just the autonomous flight, is it free to use

3. I can understand the data processing but if I just use the autonomous flight to capture pictures only - is it free to use.

1. I don't know where you are hearing that. The Air 2S and Mini 2 are both supported by the DJI SDK. They do not, however, support waypoint flight which means they are left with Virtual Stick controls. This means the app is essentially flying the aircraft along the flight path with virtual control sticks like you have on your remote.

2. Virtual Stick can be used without issue.

3. Yes.

Thanks for your quick response. I probably did not fully understand the SDK. Basically the mission requirement is to use automated flight (without using the virtual sticks) with grid patterns. Is there a way to use automated flights with Mini2 or 2S. I do not see 3S is still not compatible. If not which Air drone can be used with autonomous flight. So, I can able to use Map Pilot Pro to capture the pictures with free of charge then (not processing the map) - thanks.

It is autonomous flight in that you are not manually controlling it. It is a question of the aircraft being in control or ground-based software. The 3S will not likely be supported by the DJI SDK ever and it is left with KMZ Export mission definition only which is complicated and limited. The app is free for your use.

Thanks Zane for your prompt reply with all the answers.
I am able to login to the site by not able to login from the app so unable to fly but not sure what if that is expired or my free service is done. As you said, I am able to fly with free of charge.
Also, I had a task to take some pictures of a roof with 80% overlap from both side and front (topdown pictures total of 10 qty.) like 1 picture in every 80% overlap. The autonomous flight takes multiple pictures along the way, is there an option just take 1 picture along the way to cover the area, you have any such tutorial.

Make sure you are using the latest version of the app. Old versions are blocked from logging in.

Hi Zane,

First, I am super happy to see the automated flight is working for me and also really appreciate your quick response. I finally found a great app for my work. I am still practicing to be prepared for mapping jobs. I have the following observation/questions:

1. I used the updated app, had to use a different credential to fly

2. My DJI Mini2 does not follow the flight path properly, not sure it is due to the low-tier drone. I am planning to buy Air 2S as Air 3S won't be supported.

3. Sometimes, exit button does not work, unable to edit the planned mission, had to use new mission, 80/80 overlap does not work, had to use upto 75% which is good enough.

4. Sometimes, the manual control does not work properly to maneuver (after pausing the mission) or bringing down the drone after completing the mission. It does come to the same point where it is launched.

5. Just wondering there is a way to control where to start and end the flight path.

6. It's difficult to overlay all the images to see the succession or make order to see the progress - is there a way to arrange the pictures after the mission.

1. OK. You shouldn't have multiple accounts but whatever works.

2. You are flying very low with higher overlap so the passes are really close together and you have a weird small layout with lots of very sharp angles. Flying a more realistic plan for covering a larger area will work better. This will be the same on the Air 2S.

3. Make sure you are using a quality mobile device and close all other apps that are running in the background (especially drone apps).

4. Allow the aircraft to land itself so multi battery missions don't get out of sync. If you want to take over manually just do that. Any stick input on a Virtual Stick flight will cancel out of the programmed flight anyway.

5. The start is always the same as the landing point unless you are using the Movable Home Point feature with a compatible remote that updates the home point as you move to a new location.

6. I am not sure what you are talking about here but it doesn't sound like you are processing with us. If you need help visualizing where the images came from try something like TerrainDrop.

Hie Zane,

Thanks for all the great explanation, I was trying to mimic this for one of the assignments with the same altitude but I realize my test area is small. I understand the factors and variables that makes a realistic combination. Sometimes, the client ask for the raw pictures and sometimes the mapped data. I am practicing for both and of course would use the data processing from the Map Made Easy. Thanks a lot for your quick response and great support which I have hardly seen from other companies.
