QuickTerrain Test Aug 27th

So I had a chance to put a few batteries through the Map Pilot today. I have a potential new client with a Golf Course/ Road /Housing development just outside of town and they are cool with me testing the inspire and map pilot there.

Everything worked as expected for the most part. There is a new beep that comes from the controller now which I suspect has something to do with the link status between the inspire and the RC. A warning maybe?

The area to be scanned is on a hillside so I think some of the photos higher in elevation might not have enough overlap. When the elevation following tools come online, that will be very handy for sites like this.

I screwed up and started scanning the area with low battery on my iphone and had to switch it out for the ipad after 2 flights. when the mission planning and saving features arrive, will missions update across devices so we do not need to plan new missions on separate devices?

That beep was added on our second version we released.

We noticed that the control signal goes away VERY quickly when something isn't right so we warn you when it is below 85% for more than a couple of seconds. This is also why we implemented the direction indicator so you can track the aircraft by pointing your remote towards it to maximize the signal.

For mapping of hilly areas, try to start as high as you can so the overlap is calculated for the high terrain and the terrain below will just have even more overlap.

We know that the app eats battery pretty quickly. There are a lot of vanity features in there that we might add a low update rate version to conserve battery. Once you are comfortable using the map for updates you can also turn off the video preview. It uses software decoding that is an absolute battery hog.

We are already looking at sharing missions across devices. Think swarms...

Sweet, I wouldn't mid being able to control multiple aircraft through one controller/ipad. Could this be possible in the future, or more along the lines of a lineup of controllers and their accompanying ipads strewn accross my tailgate type scenario. Would be super cool to have DJI produce a PC data link for these things and so we could run multiple craft from a laptop with a pc version of Map Pilot...What a dream

We are working on it... A a million other things. It would more likely be something like having one master device that does the layout and N slave devices that get their missions from the master. PC version is very unlikely. We are pretty sure they aren't going to release a ground station for their new stuff. They are leaning more towards the Matrice and giving things on board control so they don't have to rely on any radio link.

In your million other things, are you doing anything with RTK gps positioning on your Matrice devices? I am only curious because there was mention of RTK capabilities in a recent DJI survey I saw.

Not until they provide something that supports it. We won't be doing that on our own.
