Processing issues in Pix4D

When using the pilot app it works great to collect the pictures. To process the pictures into a 3d model, I use pix4d. Can you use the app if you are processing in pix4d? When I add my control points in pix4d it flips everything upside down. For some reason when collecting pictures with this app and then putting it into pix4d, its not changing the altitude to an elevation. So its thinking that my 300ft. altitude is 300ft. elevation when the actual ground is around 330ft. elevation. I was wondering if there is something you have to change inside pix4d to make it work, or if you just can't use this app in conjunction with pix4d? Thanks

Yes. The images taken with Map Pilot can be used with any image processing software.

DJI aircraft do not record the altitudes above sea level. The altitude values in the geotags are relative to the take off point.

Maps Made Easy accounts for this by allowing users to upload a ground reference image with the rest of the aerial imagery. We use this image to pull an elevation value of the take off point from USGS or SRTM data.

You could do the same thing with your images by manually adding an offset into the tags of each of the images.

We don't know how Pix4D does things and can't supply specific support for their software.

I figured out the problem I was having. I guess the Map Pilot takes images in a 4:3 ratio, and the images I have been using in Pix4D are in a 16:9 ratio. Is there any way I can change this inside Map Pilot?

Map Pilot's trigger assumes a 4000x3000 image. 16:9 is not good for mapping so we don't have it as an option since doing so would require faster imaging or slower flight. Faster imaging isn't possible on the DJI cameras and slower flight should not be a goal unless it is required. 16:9 also generally delivers lower quality camera calibration calculations which leads to lower quality results.

We are not super familiar with Pix4D but know for sure that 4:3 images will work. Good luck!
