Takeoff point under altitude restriction

I'd like to map an area that is several miles from an airport, but a bit hard to get to. The easiest point to operate from is just barely under a 60m altitude restriction extending out from the runways. This poses a problem for the usual mapping workflow: when MPP commands the climb to 120m, the drone gets to 60 and ignores the continuing climb input (my drone only supports virtual joysticks. Not sure if this is different for waypoint-capable drones).

The entire affected area has no restrictions and can be flown without issue, if I could just get the drone out from under the altitude restriction first. What's the recommended approach to this? Can I use MPP to manually fly out from under the restriction and start in midair? Should I use the DJI app to fly out to a safeish spot, land, then switch apps and proceed from there? And after a manual landing to do a battery swap, how do I set things up to get MPP to continue the mission?

Thanks.

James

Why are you having it go to 120m in a place that is limited to 60m?

The way to handle this is using DJI's FlySafe system so you can get authorized to fly in DJI's defined No Fly Zones.

Map Pilot Pro requires you to take off from the ground. You can't start a Map Pilot Pro mission mid-flight.

I want 120m because the area is hilly and I don't think I'd stay connected at 60m. To clarify my original point, the entire area to be mapped is free of restrictions; it's only the ideal takeoff point that has that restriction.

Does FlySafe allow unlocking of altitude restriction zones? I have to admit I've never tried.

If that's not possible, can I use MPP as a viewer for manually flying to a clear patch near the site where I can start the mapping from?

Yes, you can clear whole zones. Depending on the kind of airspace there may or may not be other restrictions.

You could use it as a viewer but the trigging wouldn't be occurring.

For the sake of those finding this thread with the same problem, I tested this and can confirm that you can just work around the zones by manually flying to a better location, landing and starting the mission from there. You need to be able to control the drone while it's on the ground there, so be careful of obstructions, and it needs to be a place that is clear of obstacles, animals and people.

Fly out there from your home base using the camera view (new DJI flyers: you can start the motors manually by holding the joysticks down and inward). I suggest a vertical landing , as this is the path MPP will take, and it will help confirm there are no branches, etc. Once landed, hit takeoff and let the mission proceed as usual. When battery gets low, it will attempt to return to the takeoff point, so just take over and fly it back to you. Swap the battery as usual, manually fly back to your chosen take off point and resume the mission.

It's a bit of hassle and MPP isn't a great app for manual flight, but it's not too sketchy and works well enough if you don't want to mess with zone unlocking for whatever reason.
