Connection issues with Phantom 4 Pro

Thank you for the great app with professional functionalities! The problem is, I've not been able to connect my drone to Map Pilot at all.

I've tried your connection troubleshooting tips (DJI Go4 is not running in the background, tried switching both the drone and tablet off in various orders and disconnecting the rc-tablet cable in between). Once I managed to get an error message that only the remote controller was detected, but even that message disappeared after several seconds and I was not able to recreate the situation.

Connection testing has been done outdoors with proper GPS positioning signal for the drone.

System: Map Pilot with P4P (v2) + iPad Mini 4

All firmware is up-to-date.

Flying with DroneDeploy and Pix4D Capture works just fine, so this is not a general problem related to 3rd party apps.

A rapid reply would be very much appreciated, as we're losing valuable working days while troubleshooting this issue.

We have reworked some of the connection logic in version 4.0.4 which we hope to release for Map Pilot soon. It is currently available for the free LITE version if you want to test it. It seems some aircraft take longer to connect than others.

Thanks for the reply, I will test Map Pilot LITE and see if it makes any difference. I certainly hope so, because other apps are not offering the features that we need, e.g. raw images.

I'll report back once the testing is done.

Hello again. I'm happy to say Map Pilot LITE seems to connect to our P4P without problems.

However, I still wasn't able to fly the planned mission as the app claimed there was no GPS signal available. In reality DJI GO4 reported an excellent GPS signal (again, the DJI GO app closed properly before opening Map Pilot LITE).

I ended up flying the mission with Drone Deploy and everything went smoothly. Any ideas how to fix this new issue on Map Pilot LITE?

We are glad it was able to connect for you. We haven't had any other reports of not being able to get a GPS lock if one was available in DJI Go. Have you tried again since then?

I haven't tried again, but I will do so in a couple of days and report back to you. Let's keep our fingers crossed that it was just some temporary glitch.

I am reporting the first successful flight with Map Pilot LITE and P4P.

However, it seems that some connection issues persist and those are limited to flying pre-programmed missions. When planning the flight mission on-the-go I was able to switch the drone on and start flying immediately (never leaving the mission planning window in-between).

But when trying to fly a pre-planned mission (opening the mission via mission management) the app would again refuse to connect, despite switching drone/app/tablet on and off.

I will continue to test different setups, but unfortunately this means we cannot rely our operations solely on MapPilot.

There isn't any real difference in how the aircraft connects for a saved mission vs a new one.

It sounds like you may be doing things in a weird order. Try this:

  1. Fully close all drone related apps.
  2. Turn on the remote.
  3. Turn on the aircraft.
  4. Plug the iOS device into the remote.
  5. Open DJI Go and check for a connection and video feed.
  6. Fully close DJI Go.
  7. Open Map Pilot.

My explanation probably sounded a bit messy, sory for that. I tried exactly the order you described and when opening Map Pilot the app does not connect to the drone.

It does find my P4P after I unplug and replug the usb-cable connecting the ipad to the rc (while the app is open and running). However, this only helps when I'm planning a new mission. When I do this with pre-planned mission connection to the drone is not established at all.

If it says "Aircraft Connected" at the top but doesn't show the red triangle this means it found the remote and the aircraft but there is not a solid GPS fix yet.

It can take a bit so make sure it has a clear view of the sky. If you are simulating you can turn on the simulator before the fix is achieved and it will use the purple dot location as the takeoff point.
