X5 Matrice mapping results

Does e X5 on the matrice work with map pilot. I see DJI has released it for he matrice now. http://store.dji.com/product/matrice-100-zenmuse-x5-mounting-kit

We haven't tested the Matrice with the X5 yet since we haven't had access to the mount either but we have added support for the X5 camera on the Inspire. It should connect on the Matrice but we don't have any way of being sure until we test it.

I look forward to hearing the results with the matrice. Do you find the x5 is good for mapping with the inspire and the 12mm lens?  Do flight times increase a lot and are the results much better than the x3.

The X5 cuts battery life dramatically. The 12 or 15mm lenses are both narrower than the X3 camera so they are good for getting higher levels of detail for flying at the same height or allowing you to collect the same level of detail from higher up.

The results are beautiful and the color is much better. Trees are easier to render and building's edges are straighter. We have a lot of customers who have fully converted over.

The X5 is not for use in collecting data over large areas. The narrower field of view and limited battery life make it better for collecting very high resolution data close in to the takeoff point.

That's good to know. The 12mm lens is 10 degrees fov less than the x3 camera correct. Does it trigger faster than the x3 to help cover more area? It seems like the matrice may be ideal for this camera.

The X5 doens't trigger any faster than the X3 and has a narrower field of view so it requires much higher flight to be able to go full speed.

The same mission and detail level that can be flown by the X3 at 60 m would likely need to be flown at 100 m.

The X5 camera cuts the battery time by 5-7 minutes.

The two things make it really hard to use the X5 for covering large survey areas.

One thing that the helps the X5 to go faster is that the aperture of the lens is a lot bigger and allows for shorter exposure times (less ground smear, less light based speed reduction).

Map Pilot can show you the differences in mission time, GSD, flight speed and coverage.

We will probably get one in the shop here at some point and will try to test it. Based on our experience with installing the X5 camera on an older Inspire it will likely work.
