I see that you have enabled 3rd party maps but nowhere in your material do you describe where to get additional maps used for flight planning. What maps can be used?
By default, you can use the standard Apple Maps basemaps for doing your flight planning. If you need other basemaps you need to find your own data. Everyone has their own needs, but we have found that http://earthexplorer.usgs.gov/ has a lot of resources. Basically, any map you can get as a GeoTiff can be used as a basemap.

Trevor: This is a bit off topic since the original question was about bringing other map sources into Map Pilot.
There is not currently a way to do that in Maps Made Easy. You can use other map layers that you are already created as a basemap to georeference against. We will be offering some new capabilities related to this by the end of the summer.
The best thing to do in the mean time is to use QGIS to do you manual georeferencing after Maps Made Easy has stitched the images together.
