Mapping flight path question

I am new to MME, but I have used other drone mapping programs. I fly a P3P with an iPad Mini3

I was setting up a map on the mini. I got the boundaries drawn. When the flight path populated, the turn around path area goes 128 ft outside of the map area. Is that normal? It seams excessive to me. My concern is there is a tall building that I need to check the height on, but I don't remember other programs taking that much space to turn around

Using the Active Connect setting in Map Pilot will ensure that all images are taken while travelling the same speed. The flight outside of the defined area is used to speed up and slow down for the turn arounds. The faster you travel, the more room you will need to speed up and slow down.

Think of the orange survey boundary area as the are in which the data will actually be accurate. Using the Connectionless mode, imagery will be taken outside this boundary but you should think twice about using it for any volume related calculations since the images taken at slower speeds will affect the accuracy of the final product.

The path that gets designed is the path that gets flown so the pilot needs to make sure that path is a safe one.

A P3P will stop nearly on a dime. If not a dime within 10 ft, and certainly a lot less than 128ft.

I have used several other mapping programs before. None of them have taken anywhere near that distance that distance to turn around. I thought it might be an anomaly because I was not connected when setting up the map, or something else that I was missing.

But you are telling me that it is the expected behavior to take 128ft to make the first 90 degree turn, once the drone crosses the capture boarder, at the end of a mapping run?

It is the distance to get up to speed that is the issue. Waypoint flight doesn't use full forward throttle when getting up to speed so it takes some distance.

We don't do it because it's fun, we do it because it creates the most accurate data.
