Emergency takeover in P-Mode didn't work. Guess what happened next.

I was about to write a commendation, after so many months of struggles your latest app version seems to be running multi-battery flights smoothly. Then this happened. So, I've learned that return to home is never better than +/- 5m accuracy, so I try to launch from a 10m circle radius of clear ground, but wasn't possible at this site no such area. Finished flight, it was coming down a bit too close to a rock for my liking. At about 20 m elevation I switched to 'P' mode for manual takeover to nudge it to a better position. But then the controls didn't work. The more I pushed the controls, the more the drone (Inspire 1 pro) resisted the pushing and did kind of the OPPOSITE of my control scheme (and yes, I was facing the right direction and had the right control scheme etc.). So I tried desperately to gain elevation and hover, but the drone just kept drifting and descending as if forcing its way to the home position that it thought it was supposed to go to. By this point, it had drifted 30 m away from home point right into a tree and destroyed the drone. Isn't P-mode supposed to be for emergency landing? This is pretty dangerous if P-mode gives no full control!!

This happened once before, in 2017, but I was on an empty field at the time so nothing bad happened and thought it must have just been my error. Now I'm not so sure. Since you can't fix my drone, what can you do to fix the app?

We are sorry to hear that you had an issue. All Map Pilot flight is done via DJI's waypoint flight control that is programmed according to the blue verification line that is displayed before takeoff. Once you switched the aircraft out of the programmed flight mode it is not under waypoint control anymore and the pilot is on their own to control the aircraft.

This is the exact reason why we force the initial home point to be within a small radius off the takeoff location before taking off. It is assumed that the pilot will be able to take over to land safely.

If it was drifting it sounds like it was in ATTI mode and went with the breeze.

We have heard that sometimes you have to switch the PSA or PAF switch a couple times to get it to gain control. But again, this isn't something we can address in Map Pilot.

I am not sure why it would respond opposite to your inputs but this isn't something Map Pilot can cause. You may want to send things to DJI or have them inspect your log files to see if there was a hardware or interference issue.

Again, we are sorry to hear you had such a serious incident but it sounds like something else may be going on here.
