Grid mission: max. flight speed of 4m/s?

I love MPP but I can't use it unless I can fly faster. Even with Ground Smear Limit set to 3x, Slow Aircraft to Off and SD card speed to 2 sec/image, I still can't fly faster than 4m/s at 75% overlap. Sure, overlap down to 5% increases speed to 10m/s, but other software takes 10 times as much images at 4m/s plus it allows me to fly at 10m/s (36km/h) at 85% overlap, which I need for large projects.

I hope I missed a way to increase speed, or the number of images?

p.s. I made many photogrammetry models at 10m/s and 1/1000th shutter speed, I don't see why this isn't default (I use two mavic 2 pro's to map huge areas).

Are you taking RAW images or JPG?

It sounds like you are probably flying pretty low. If the camera can only take one image every 2 seconds there are going to be limits as to how fast you can fly at any given speed. This has nothing to do with Map Pilot Pro, it is just math.

You can read more about this here:

https://support.dronesmadeeasy.com/hc/en-us/articles/211398963-Determining-the-Flight-Speed

Some other apps will let you think you can go faster but then the images are not likely actually getting 75%. You claim other apps are allowing you to take 10 times as many images but I don't see how that is possible since the camera still will only take one image every 2 seconds...

1/1000 is very short and wouldn't work at all in the winter or northern/southern latitudes.

Thank you for your considerations. True, I can only fly on sunny days in winter. It's just that my projects are so large that I need a) enough light and b) high enough flight speeds. 1/1000th is enough on a decently bright day, even at f4 and I have no blurry images at 36km/u or 10m/s. I fly at 100m altitude.

I applaud the automatic conversion of flight speeds -pretty innovative feature- but it feels it doesn't allow for a wide enough range. T.b.h., as a professional I prefer manual settings or a multiplier of sorts. I read through many online docs of MPP and cannot find a way to increase flight speed or picture speed. Decreasing the overlap slider increases the speed, but 10m/s is only attained at 5% overlap, taking pictures at what feels 5 seconds interval (while SD speed is set to 2 seconds in Settings). Sliding the overlap towards 75%, speed drops down to 4m/s.

Another way to look a it: In Windows explorer I only count 12 RAW files per second with MPP flights, where other software writes 30 RAW files to the same SD card. I'm still hoping I overlooked something, but as it stands I won't be upgrading. Thanks again.

I replied to this yesterday but apparently forgot to hit submit and lost the lengthy post.

We try to keep things working well for everyone by closely following the DJI specs. DJI says the camera operates in RAW at 5 seconds per image. You say it works faster. Most of the time we hear from people saying it doesn't even keep up with the 5 sec frame rate.

But... Android 1.3.3 and iOS 5.4.15 have both been released with a independently selectable frame rate so you can try to beat the DJI spec if you want to. It might work sometimes but we think it will eventually catch up with you so use with caution.

Thanks a lot for your post over the weekend. I have updated the app and I now see a 1 second SD speed in settings, I love pushing limits :) and I will report back when weather permits. (however, my trail just expired, is it easy for you to extend it or do I start a new trial?)

Your trial has been extended for two days to give it a try.
