I have a mapping job to do the next week in Québec, Canada, with a Inspire 1 Pro (X5 camera) and your Map Pilot App on an Ipad Mini 4. The temperature can go low in Québec. We are planing to fly at -8 Celcius to -10celcius. I have a 3 battery mission at 120 m altitude, 80% overlap and 14 m/s mas speed. I am planning to return home at 35% battery to be sure to have siffuciant power.
Do you see some obstable or do you have some advice for me or just to fly in the cold?

We are from San Diego and have ZERO experience flying in the cold. We know we have lots of users in Scandinavia and they seem to be able to collect data in the cold pretty well.
Look into the battery insulating stickers and be super conservative with your batteries, especially flying the Inspire 1 Pro which already has a shortened battery life.

We have used an Inspire 1 with both X3 and X5 with air-temperatures around -6 and 4 bft wind, with no specific cold-related issues when flying. Major challenge is to keep the whole kit as warm as possible prior to takeoff, and the spare batteries warm until you swap them. As soon as the craft starts flashing that batt temp warning you are lost, only solution then is to bring it back up to 15C or more.
Batteries seem to drain a little bit faster, but not much, i guess since they dissipate quite some warmth when in use and that keeps them from freezing and loosing power.
When humidity is high u might start to see some ice build up on the craft, we have never gotten to a stage where that posed any troubles. Good luck!

I flew and Inspire 1 PRO (X5) in the COLD yesterday. It was -8 Celcius with a 15 km/h wind. I keep the battery in the vehicle to keep them warm at about 25 celcius and I have put the isolation pad on it (TB48 battery). Everything been fine. No problem at all. The only difference is that the flight time been reduced to about 13-14 minutes and the battery of my ipad mini 4 was going down quickly. So, the conclusion is: Take care of the battery and it should be ok!
