Mission planning in Map Pilot Pro

Can't really see why it's a bad idea. The XT2 is pretty much a rebadged FLIR Duo Pro so the settings should be the same, the only issue with it is that DJI does not recognise it as a valid sensor, so you have to fly it cameraless. But it still triggers just the same from Pix4D Capture when set as an XT2, so why not on Map Pilot Pro? We would usually use Pix4D Capture for this work, but it requires every flight to be set up manually (no KML import) so on a site this big (300Ha) it's going to take up too much time. I've been able to construct basic flight plans in Map Pilot and then import them to Map Pilot Pro and they work there (after some adjustment). It just seems that offline flight planning in Map Pilot is a lot more user friendly than offline flight planning in Map Pilot Pro, which seems odd.

The mission saving process is almost exactly as it was before. Drop 3 points, add more if needed. Double tap to define the take off location. Hit 'Save'.

The FLIR Duo Pro is not a DJI camera so no app will trigger it for you. If you are experienced in setting it up to trigger appropriately maybe it isn't a big deal. 

What do you find different between Map Pilot and Map Pilot Pro?

I have figured out how to do the flight planning in MP Pro (guess we now have to see if it works), but is there some particular reason why I cannot change the mission speed for the XT2 13mm sensor? I'm flying at 38m (5cm/px), 80/30 overlap and I have the SD card setting on 2s intervals, but MP Pro won't allow me to increase the flight speed beyond 2m/s, even though we are instructed to fly this using the above settings at 3.1m/s.

MP standard seemed happy to work with straight KML files but for some reason MP Pro only started to work for me once I changed all the KML filenames to including _boundary. Then it was very fast because it remembered all the other settings from KML to KML.

KMLs can be imported to be used a layout guides. In the last year or so the _boundary feature has been added to allow direct flight path or boundary import. 

The 13mm lens creates a very small image on the ground from 38 meters. You are trying to get 80% along track overlap. The camera (XT2) can only take one image per 2 seconds. It just can't go that fast. You should be able to get it to go a big faster if you set the SD Card Write speed to a faster value. 

Basically, the app is limiting the speed based on the capabilities of the camera and your selected altitude and overlap values. There isn't really a way to fly faster without changing one of those settings.

You should ask whoever told you that how you are supposed to fly at 3.1 m/s given those parameters. Maybe the FLIR Duo Pro can write files faster than that. In that case, set the value properly in the Custom Camera settings. 

It looks like there is no way to manually change the imaging frame rate? The FLIR Duo Pro at that altitude can capture 1 image per second, but I can't set at below 1 image every 2 seconds.

No, you can set that value however you want it. 

Choose 'Custom Camera' as your flight camera. 

Enter the parameters for the FLIR Duo Pro. 

Set the 'Max Image Frame Rate' to 1 second per frame.

The normal 'Imaging Frame Rate' setting is overridden when using the 'Custom Camera'.
