The Terrain Awareness feature requires a access token (think of it as a password) that comes from a Maps Made Easy account. It can be retrieved from the user's account profile:

This token is free for anyone to generate.
To unlock the Terrain Awareness feature you have to copy and paste the token into the appropriate place in the Map Pilot settings.
Once it is there you need can preview a terrain aware flight without paying for the feature. When closing the terrain aware flight elevation plot preview you will be prompted to purchase the feature in order to be able to take off or save the flight.
