Mission Planning: Altitude Vs. Overlap

In the old map pilot I routinely flew mapping missions at 100' with 80/80 overlap; it seemed to be the sweet spot for my output product which allowed me to see the detail necessary to document wildland fire origin areas. The new MPP (I'm running the beta version using an Evo 2 Pro 6K) will not let me input those parameters. If I set the overlap to 80/80 the software raises the altitude, if I reset the altitude it reduces the overlap. How do I get 100' altitude w/ 80/80 overlap?

It all comes down to geometry of the sensor, flight height and overlap. With a DJI camera it might have allowed you to do that but the 6K is pretty large but has a tight field of view. This is cool but but it means you have a smaller footprint on the ground. This means that 80% has the images being spaced tighter than the camera's minimum framing rate will allow at the minimum speed so something has to move... We bump the height up accordingly. If you bump the height back down it will adjust the overlap. We are trying not to let you plan a flight with parameters that the camera can't perform for.

OK I understand that. Thanks for the explanation. What would you recommend 1) flying at the higher altitude to get the 80/80 overlap, or 2) flying at 100' and accept the lower overlap? I still need to identify standard yellow and black 8" evidence markers with 6" numerals in the original photos. I'm not concerned with the 3D products I'm only using the orthophoto to produce flat maps/diagrams. (I know some people flying for accident reconstruction have recommend flying as low as 60', but I can rarely do that because of trees and brush.) I'm correcting the orthophoto with GCPs

Overlap is the single most important thing so you kind of have to live and die by that. The reason for the limitation is EVOII having the narrower field of view than the DJI camera. This means the EVO II will get the same ground resolution as the DJI camera from further up (which sounds like a good fit for you).
