Wilderness Operations

Hello,

I recently purchased a DJI Mavic 2 Pro for surveying work. We will be using the drone to map remote areas in the Yukon next week, where there will be no internet or cell service. I purchased the Map Pilot app today, and I was wondering if there's anyone familiar with the drone/application combination that could make any recommendations on steps I should follow to prepare the app for operations in the wilderness? From what I can tell, pre-loading my flight plans is necessary, but are there any other tips/tricks out there that I should be aware of?

Thanks!

Jared

Make sure you have missions saved, with terrain data, for any area you are planning on operating within. You can test that you have everything you need by doing layouts in your intended survey area while in Airplane Mode.

The surround .3 degrees (~10 mile radius) is downloaded for terrain data but each mission gets its own basemap data so be sure to make a placeholder mission for the main areas and a bit of the surrounding area.

Thanks for the information Zane! There is only one area we will be surveying (see attached image of KML boundary overlaid on Google Earth). A couple questions about preparing the flight:

- When I make a "placeholder" mission, can the mission be edited when in the field with no service?

- If so, you're suggesting to make the "placeholder" mission a bit larger than the intended boundary?

Relating to field operations:

- With airplane mode turned on, will the drone still be able to find its way back to me ("home") as subsequent flights are flown?

- If so, can I move in-between flights while working on flying the whole area, so my "home" is closer to the section of area being flown?

Thanks!
