area measurements

I am using the free version as I am just doing a few small maps right now. I can get the outer dimensions of an object, but I can not get the inner area or volume. Is this something that is only in the paid version? or am I doing something wrong?

It sounds like you are using the linear measurement tool. The polygon tool will provide the area.
