The gimbals themselves are pretty much exactly the same. We have been telling people that if you are already the owner of a GoPro, the Phantom 2 route is probably the way to go. It gives you a much more modular solution so in the case of an eventual crash (you will crash it) it is easier/cheaper to fix stuff. Break the GoPro? Get a new GoPro. Break the gimbal? Get a new gimbal. With the Vision+, if you crash it, you currently have to replace the entire gimbal/camera assembly. It costs around $700...
That being said, the big upside of the Vision+ is the ease and price of getting an FPV (First Person Vision) setup up and going. Getting a GoPro-based FPV setup together will cost $300-500 more than the Vision+.
For our mapping applications, the Phantom 2 system is much more flexible, but with DJI's new software, they have introduced ground station capabilities to the Vision+.
